Development, Wiring and Function of Cerebellar Circuits
Our team

Juan Antonio Moreno-Bravo
Principal Investigator
Juan Antonio obtained his PhD at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche in 2015, working with Dr. Eduardo de Puelles on how progenitor identity and morphogen signalling determine neuronal fate and axonal trajectory. He then joined the laboratory of Dr. Alain Chédotal at the Institut de la Vision, Sorbonne Université, where he led work showing that floor-plate-derived Netrin-1 — the textbook long-range attractant for commissural axons — is dispensable for midline crossing, and that the essential signal is substrate-bound Netrin-1 from ventricular zone progenitors (Nature, 2017; Development, 2018; Neuron, 2019).
After a postdoctoral period in the laboratory of Dr. Guillermina López-Bendito at the Instituto de Neurociencias, he established his own group in January 2021, supported by a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship and an ERC Starting Grant.
He is currently CSIC Group Leader (Científico Titular) and leads the research team "Development, Wiring and Function of Cerebellar Circuits". His work has been recognised with the Olympus Young Researcher Award of the Spanish Society for Neuroscience and election to the Teófilo Hernando Forum of Young Researchers of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain.

Raquel Murcia
Research Assistant
Raquel joined the lab in January 2021. She is Biotechnologist holding a MSc in Neurosciences from the UMH.
Currently, she is in charge of the viral injections, axonal tracing, mouse surgeries and the maintenance of the lab,

Jorge Mallor
Project Manager
Jorge has joined the group in June 2021.
He manages the budget, expenses and accountability of the research grants. He also coordinates and provides support for the purchases of the laboratory consumables.
Martina Riva
Postdoctoral Researcher
Martina joined the lab in January 2022. She holds a MSc in Biology from the University of Milano-Bicocca and in Genetics from the University of Paris Diderot. She got her PhD in Neurobiology at the University of Paris in 2021 working in IPNP and Imagine Institutes under the supervision of Dr. Alessandra Pierani. During her PhD work she focused on the role of Cajal-Retzius cells and Reelin in normal and pathological cortical development. In the lab, she investigates how spontaneous cerebellar activity emerges during perinatal development and how it shapes the maturation of neocortical circuits

Cristian Arnal-Real
Postdoctoral Researcher
Cristian joined the lab in June 2022. He holds a MSc in Neurosciences from the University of Valencia. He got his PhD in Neurosciences at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (France) in 2021 working in epilepsy under the supervision of Dr. Fabrice Wallois. During his PhD work he focused on the role of Interictal Epileptic Spikes activity and all the liked disturbances of the intimate functional balance between various neuronal (synaptic and non-synaptic), vascular, and metabolic compartments.
Ana Moreno Cerdá
PhD Student
Ana joined the lab in February 2022. She has studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Lleida and holds a MSc in Neuroscience. After she graduated, she has been working in understanding the development of the epithalamus under the supervision of Dr. Eduardo de Puelles in the Experimental Embryology group at the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante.

Ángeles Arzalluz Luque
Postdoctoral Researcher
Ángeles joined the lab in April 2024. She obtained an MSc in Systems Biology from the University of Edinburgh, after which she pursued a PhD in Bioinformatics under the supervision of Dr. Ana Conesa and Dr. Sonia Tarazona. During her PhD, she worked in the development of novel computational methods for the study of alternative isoforms in single-cell RNA-seq data, gaining broad expertise in transcriptomics, long-read and multi-omic data analyses, both at the bulk and single-cell levels under the supervision of Dr. Ana Conesa (Institute for Integrative Systems Biology, Valencia) and Dr. Sonia Tarazona (Universitat Politècnica de València).
